Artist Biography:

Aurora Knopper was born in 1990 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Knopper is majoring in Studio Art with a concentration in Photography at Oakland University (OU) and plans to graduate in the fall of 2019. Knopper attended the University of Washington from 2008 – 2010 where she was a member of the Photography Club. In 2011, Knopper attended Washtenaw Community College where she studied photography, among other things. Currently, she works with both analog and digital photography. Knopper is working on becoming a professional wedding photography after she graduates and hopes to maybe one day have her own studio.

Artist Statement:

            To say that Aurora Knopper’s work is about love would not be enough to capture the art in itself. Yes, weddings are a time to celebrate love, but her work focuses on capturing people and the way their interactions spread joy, contagious enough to ignite a room, a dance floor, even a tear.

As a child, Knopper admired the relationships and popularity that the bride got on her day. As Knopper got older, the dream was less about being the center of attention and more about who to share it with.

Vibrant colors and subtleties together create an effect that is clearly pleasing to the eye, easily understood at a glance as classical music is to the ear; yet the trick is to make each image unique enough to stand alone.

To make the commitment of a lifetime, one must capture the essence represented by an image that will last forever. Knopper’s artwork is meant to highlight the details that are sometimes forgotten, like the intricacy of the buttons on a dress or the glimmer of a ring. Families come together to remember the moment, now a memory, a time of celebration, but also a time of reflection and sometimes tears, a story of the highs and lows of life that brought two people and their families together as one on a journey to honor a tradition as old as time.
